Jack & Dave

Jack & Dave is the name of a duo created to represent the performers of the musical commercials for WDAM, a pirate radio station purported to broadcast from Bedlam, Indiana in the mid-1960's.

Composed of two members from the New Piltdown Men, Ken Day and Bruce Herrick, the duo recorded a number of singing commercials for the station. Once they abandoned the pirate station for a legitimate college radio station, the duo began writing and recording their own music as well as doing some cover songs.

They continued playing and recording in graduate school until Bruce was drafted. He landed first at the Army language school in Monterey, assigned as video production staff to a failed civil servant in charge of production.

As there were no production facilities at the school, the year was spent touring the area around Monterey and writing poetry.

For the second year of draft duty, Bruce was sent to Seoul, Korea and did radio and television news and sports broadcasts on the Armed Forces Korea Network. Ken continued graduate school, married, and composed a few songs on his own during that period. At the end of active duty, Bruce returned to graduate school and to writing, playing and recording music with Ken, who somehow escaped being drafted and was able to stay in school.
